The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of States met in Lugano

On 14 and 15 April 2025, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of States (FAC-S) held its «extra muros» meeting in Lugano, in the canton of its current president, State Councillor and City Councillor Marco Chiesa. The FAC-S’s presence in Lugano provided an opportunity for an exchange of views with the cantonal and municipal authorities.

During a discussion with the Committee, the President of the Council of State, Christian Vitta, presented several issues of particular importance for Ticino, concerning the canton’s role and significance in foreign policy, especially with regard to Italy. The Committee also discussed Ticino’s role in cross-border cooperation and the current challenges, particularly those relating to migration, that Ticino and other border cantons are facing.

During the discussions held yesterday afternoon, Federal Councillors Ignazio Cassis and Guy Parmelin also took part.
