Street Directory Commission
The City of Lugano Street Directory Commission is an advisory body appointed by the City Council. The Commission issues opinions on all matters related to:
- the city street directory (naming and revision of traffic areas);
 - the installation of commemorative plaques;
 - the naming of buildings or other public spaces.

Its goal is to ensure a clear, consistent and historically grounded addressing system, while at the same time safeguarding the memory and cultural identity of the municipal territory.
Responsibilities and decision-making criteria
The Street Directory Commission:
- meets at least once a year to examine proposals for new names of streets and squares, revisions of the street directory, commemorative plaques, and the naming of buildings or public spaces;
 - assesses each case on a historical and cultural basis, applying principles of consistency, fairness, proportionality, and the protection of traditional toponyms, while respecting gender equality and the advisability of commemorating individuals who have been deceased for at least ten years;
 - resolves by a majority of the members present;
 - may consult, if necessary, the district commission responsible for the relevant area.

The individuals selected by the Commission, regardless of their nationality, must have a direct link with the local context (political, social, economic, cultural, religious, philanthropic or humanitarian), or a significant connection with Italian identity and the Swiss character of our country. In addition, it is possible to consider both contemporary figures and personalities from earlier periods who merit attention, in order to avoid their being forgotten.
