The work that a city of more than 68’000 inhabitants offers its Police officers is very demanding, yet equally varied, dynamic and interesting.

However, becoming an urban Police officer also means paying the right attention to the little things of everyday life, which matter greatly to citizens and actively contribute to their safety and, therefore, to a better quality of life.

Of course, this is a profession that perhaps more than others demands commitment, sacrifice and team spirit, but it is precisely a challenge worth meeting by choosing to become an officer of the City of Lugano Police.

This year as well, the selection of aspiring officers will take place together with all the other candidates for the competition of the Cantonal Police School (SCP), opened by the Department of Institutions. Candidates who are accepted will have the possibility to attend the 2026 Cantonal School.

Police officer training lasts 24 months, of which the first 12 at school and the remaining 12 in practice with their respective Police forces. At the end, the candidate must pass the federal examinations to obtain the Federal professional certificate of Police officer.

During the first year of training, a gross annual salary of 56’668.30 Swiss francs is paid, including the thirteenth salary.

Access to the second year of practical training, with trainee officer status, is subject to passing the preliminary examination set at the end of the SCP. During this training year, a gross annual salary of 64’697.75 Swiss francs is paid, including the thirteenth salary.

After the 2-year training and the successful passing of the federal examinations, a minimum gross annual salary of 58’067 Swiss francs and a maximum of 90’237 Swiss francs is paid, including the thirteenth salary, without prejudice to the career path provided for in the Police.

During 2025 aptitude assessments for the recruitment of police officers will take place; the basic training will start on 1 March 2026 and will conclude on 29 February 2028.

If you would like to know more, you can phone +41 58 866 86 86, where an Officer of the Lugano Police will always be ready to provide all the necessary information.

The mandatory requirements and the necessary documents are listed in the call for applications published on the cantonal police website.

The competition closes on 26 May 2025.
